The Beatles were so popular that they were immortalized by many different artists. Within the giant body of portraiture they inspired, Richard Avedon's colorful, solarized portraits of them, in 1967, are among the best known poster images of the Fab Four to emerge from that era (see Swann Modernist Poster Auction #1859, lot 103). Yet, other artists were also able to capture their spirit and the mood of the times with equal finesse. These are a series of in-store promotional posters which, when displayed side by side, compose an elongated portrait of the Fab Four. Created using a stencil process, the images promote five of the group's albums, three of which were turned into movies. The typography changes on each panel to reflect the typography used on either the movie posters or the album covers.
